The Chimborazo Volcano is the tallest volcano in Ecuador, and remarkably, the closest point to the sun on Earth. During the Hacienda System era, local ice harvesters would gather blocks of ice from Chimborazo’s glaciers, which were then transported to the coastal regions by mules so that city-goers had ice to chill their evening cocktails.
